Amazing story that builds you up and then plunges you into the abyss. A strong central character and a whole other story that all comes together and ends in hope. It wasn't the best book I've ever read but it is one to read again.
What a journey! Sad but beautiful!

Don’t mind me, just sitting here sobbing over this story and trying, unsuccessfully, to sum up the complete emotional unraveling that has just occurred.
This journal of Victoria’s coming-of-age, screamed silently and agonisingly of her need to feel loved, the hidden turmoil and brokenness of her family and the despondency that was her reality. To witness the subjection of Victoria’s childhood and adolescence to the relentless ravagings of grief, motherlessness, fear, resentment, neglect, despair and even love, was heartbreaking.
The story meanders quietly, giving pause to be captivated by its melancholic and inexplicably nostalgic tone. The delicate prose, capturing both wisdom and whimsy, tumbles across the page conveying a visceral desperation and resilience that is emotive and richly descriptive. Victoria will undoubtedly etch herself into your soul 😭
I haven’t cried this much over a book in a long while but it was worth every solitary tear that tumbled down my face. Adored every devastating page.
QUOTES:
“The landscapes of our youths create us, and we carry them within us, storied by all they gave and stole, in who we become.”
“Just as a single rainstorm can erode the banks and change the course of a river, so can a single circumstance of a girl’s life erase who she was before.”
“There is a kind of sadness that transcends sadness, that runs like hot syrup into every crevice of your being, beginning in the heart then oozing into your very cells and bloodstream, so that nothing-not earth or sky or even your own palm ever looks the same. This is the sadness that changes everything.”
Go As A River was an amazing story. I was captivated with every page of this book!

Wonderful, trying story. From the first page of this book, I was hooked. This poor girl, Victoria, goes through such heart ache and loss but she continues on to be brave and resilient.
She is a woman in a man’s world. Falls in love with someone her family doesn’t appreciate. She experiences such loss and has to make an incredible decision.
