Not what I expected , but great

Quite frankly, I didn't expect a lot when I picked up Gnelfs. I thought it looked kitschy and had a great cover, so I grabbed it. I was, quite frankly, pleasantly surprised by the quality of the writing. This book jumps in so fast you find yourself checking to make sure that you haven't missed the first few pages by accident. The story never really lets up, it doesn't give you a breather. Instead, once it has it's wicked hooks in you, it keeps dragging you along. The book is impossible to put down, you want to know what's coming next. The story revolves around a single mother and her little girl. The little girl begins having nightmares about Gnelfs (read: Smurfs) who are much more vindictive and horrible than they are in the cartoons. Then the blood, pain, and destruction start and don't stop until the last sentence. The characterization is great, the pacing is bloody brilliant, the concept is delicious, and the violence is horrific. Highly recommended to horror fans everywhere!

Saturday Morning Fears

I have to disagree with the previous reviewer. "Gnelfs" is a solid book, though I did Like Williams' "Blood Hunter" and "Night Brother" better. "Gnelfs" is told, in part, from the point of view of a very young child, a girl named Heaven who is only four and a half. People who have difficulty putting themselves into the mind of such a young one may have trouble with this book. Personally, I loved that quality. "Gnelfs" is a story about what happens when a saturday morning cartoon gets out of hand. It's an original story with some genuinely frightening moments. I recommend it.
