Powerful, funny, sad stories for the GenX in your life

I was given this book while I was homesick, living in Japan. Full of evil ex's, wacky apartments, grumpy family, odd neighbours, rotten jobs, manic friends, dreams, poverty, coffee, parades...all the things I love and detest about my unban life, it made me realize just how good I had it in Asia and that I shouldn't hurry to come back. The collection hit home with an honesty I hadn't expected and it has a current of humour and friendship as well as a relentless sense of misadventure that keeps it completely entertaining. I've read the book 4 or 5 times since and the stories are still fresh. Eleven in all, there's not a weak one in the bunch.Particularly powerful: "It's Christmas time...there's no Need to be Afraid" about family, "City Living and the First Cold Snap" about charity, and the title story "Glue for Breakfast" about fear, hope and HIV.Great book. Good gift.
