Glossins and tabanidae in the Kadiolo and Sikasso Circles

Trypanosomiasis is a serious parasitic disease that affects humans, livestock and wildlife in Mali and in many African countries. The present work took place in the Sikasso region with the following specific objectives: to determine the tsetse species, to determine the sex ratio, to determine the apparent density of tsetse and mechanical vectors of trypanosomes in the cercles of Kadiolo and Sikasso in view of an integrated control. A total of 35 villages were surveyed in the cercles of Kadiolo (20 villages in 9 communes) and Sikasso (15 villages in 4 communes). Monoconical and bionomic traps were used in the galleries and at the contact points of the different waterways. The two tsetse species encountered were: G. palpalis gambiensis and G.tachino?des: The proportion of G.palpalis gambiensis 83,33 while that of G.tachino?des 16, 67. The sex ratio (ratio of males to females) is slightly in favor of males. Our research revealed that there are villages infested with tsetse flies, stomoxes and tabanids. The species captured are the following: Tabanus gratus, Atylotus agrestis, Tabanus taenicola.
