The book also demonstrates how provisions of the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933 - had they beenleft active - could have played a major role in at least minimizing the impact of the crisis. The Glass-Steagall Act's provisions would have separated the two major branches of banking, commercial banking and investment, and this structure in turn could have prevented the crisis by limiting losses in both financial branches.
