Book Overview

Give God A Fair Chance, or GGAFC, as she often refers to it, is Deborah Shelton's spiritual response to five probing questions that have long confronted and perplexed humanity: Who am I?How did I get here? What am I doing here?Where am I going? How do I get there? Those five questions can be interpreted in a variety of ways. For example, they can be interpreted in an everyday, practical sense: I am a woman. I got here by car. I am shopping for groceries. I'm going home to cook supper. I'm going home by car.

They can also be interpreted in a philosophical sense: I think, therefore I am. I got here by thinking to be here. I am thinking thoughts here. I am going where I'm thinking to go. I will get there by thinking to go there.

And, they can be interpreted in a spiritual sense, in the way that they apply to a human being's relationship to a higher power, the power that a great number of humans generically refer to as "God". As Deborah makes it clear in GGAFC, interpreting those questions in the spiritual sense is both necessary and urgent, and that urgency is based on the last two questions. Spiritually speaking, they point directly to the universal question of life after death.

For as long as she can remember, Deborah felt the burden of life-after-death issues, but she didn't know how to formulate the questions that would satisfy her deeply buried insecurities regarding those issues. Based on the observations of the people she personally knew, and knew of, she realized that no human could answer those questions to her satisfaction. She searched for answers to them wherever her life's journey took her, but her search proved disappointingly inconclusive until one day in January 1980 God revealed Himself to her. That was the day she met Him in the person of Jesus Christ and was subsequently filled with His Holy Spirit, the indwelling presence of God Himself. The experience of being baptized in the Holy Spirit is a Biblically sanctioned one and is necessary for the spiritual growth of all Christ followers, that is, born again Christians - new babes in Christ as well as those that have been following Christ for many years.

That was the day Deborah had been waiting for her whole life, but she didn't know it until it actually happened to her because, before that day, she didn't know that God Himself could and would step across the barrier that separates humanity from Himself or that He would actually make Himself known to us.

That was also the day that she began to know God, not just to know about Him. At that point, He began revealing answers to the questions that had perplexed her for so many years. She would no longer have to concern herself with the issues of life after death. For the first time in her life, her heart could be at peace because she knew for certain where she would be going after her body dies.

Give God A Fair Chance invites you to give God the same fair chance that He gave Deborah forty-five years ago and which she eagerly and wholeheartedly accepted. She earnestly believes that God wants to reveal Himself to all humans as He revealed Himself to her because she knows that He genuinely wants a living, abiding, and everlasting relationship with all humans. He also wants all humans to live and die with the security of knowing where they're going after they die because the peace of knowing that is far more valuable than possessing all the world's treasures. Chapters 3 and 9 make compelling points about that.

Join Deborah on the spiritual journey that led her to find the answers she had been seeking her whole life.
It's a matter of death and life.
