We had made plans to run off to Bodrum, get married that summer -after her return, and she would travel back with me to the States. Teen-age dreamers. Before she left on the trip she said she would never leave her mother's side and that instead I should go with them. I refused; and we fought as young lovers often do. Kerime intervened and made us promise that we would at least wait until after the winter to make any decisions. After Kerime told me what had happened, I left Karatas and Kerime forever. Three months later, I left Turkey never to return. These were the words I wrote for her.
