Tom's drug therapy for Parkinson's disease is causing him to hallucinate, so he isn't surprised when a garden gnome starts to lecture him about fracking and politics. As a manager of a small business in Ohio that benefits indirectly from fracking, Tom's feeling are ambivalent towards the fracking industry. This frustrates the gnome, but Tom's personal health remains his primary concern despite the gnome's urgent pleas for Tom to consider larger social issues. Tom believes that DBS brain surgery will stop the hallucinations and the gnome's appearances ... but will it?
