Gifts From Crows is a young adult dystopian novel, perfect for the reader who is not looking for a 'the chosen one' story. It differs from many other publications in its genre, wherein its world was not born from some cataclysmic event (nuclear war, zombies, etc.) and is instead a commentary on a society in which current world issues are ignored.

The narrative also shifts the focus away from one 'hero teen protagonist' out to save the earth or start rebellion, to a normal girl and her struggles to find a place for herself within that new world.
