Hannah McConnell could not understand why her mother, Francesca, chose to give her away. Feeling rejected and abandoned, Hannah struggled throughout her adult life fighting to learn her self-worth. While visiting her sister, Farah, in Richmond, Virginia, Hannah sends a wire to the James brothers, Frank and Jesse, requesting their assistance in freeing her newlywed husband from jail for a crime in which he was falsely accused. The James brothers hold up their end of the bargain, but then decide to take Hannah and Farah for themselves. Hannah's new husband is soon killed, leaving her alone with Frank James. Hannah has found a new life calling and joins Frank in his outlaw adventures. The two of them become known as The Ghosts of Luna Creek after robbing the Richmond-Alexandria Railroad. They meet up with Jesse and Farah in Missouri where they plan to travel together to the Wyoming Territory to find the McConnell's missing sister, Melody.
