Ghosts of Europa
She didn't mean to kill him. But an innocent man, the lone father of two children, is dead because of her mistake during a stakeout that was meant to save lives. Immigration Officer Kinley McAdams accepts responsibility for her actions and presents herself to the tribunal of executives who are part of the Eristella Corporation, the company that owns the subterranean city on Mars she lives in and works for. They want to send her to Europa, the ice-covered Jovian moon, to assist a tiny group of scientists and to investigate the disappearance of the disgraced Commander Leon James. What seems like an easy assignment quickly turns sour. Something about the research station on Europa is off. Nightmares plague everyone. Kinley begins to hallucinate, haunted by the children she orphaned, feeling them pursue her down the long corridors of the station.
As Kinley uncovers Leon James's personal log and files, she is confronted with the evolving picture of a man who lost his grip on reality. What's more, she learns that everyone on Europa has a checkered past. In that sense, she fits right in. But can one of the crew have killed James?
Becoming obsessed with uncovering the truth, Kinley leaves no stone unturned. But she never imagined uncovering a more cold, calculated, and sinister plot to subject seemingly expendable human beings to the effects of alien artifacts. Eristella has their own plans. But they never counted on the madness of a guilt-ridden starship commander and Kinley's unwavering determination even in the face of terror.
