In 1939, the Steinmark and her sister ship Altmark were assigned to the South Atlantic to support the heavy cruiser Admiral Graf Spee. After the Graf Spee was scuttled, the supply ships returned to Germany and in 1945 the Steinmark set sail from Hamburg bound for Argentina. The ship was supposedly carrying extremely valuable cargo which the men who hired Marin want to retrieve. Marin and his crew run into explosive problems.
