Kenna's husband, Steve has just been murdered. To complicate things, she was outside at the time, following a ghostly figure of an old woman down to the edge of their small pond. After hearing two gunshots, Kenna runs through the slippery mud back up to the house to find Steve lying in their bedroom, dead. There is no sign of an intruder. As the investigations progresses, as Kenna's trial unfolds, dark secrets are uncovered that eventually point to the startling truth about the identity of the murderer, as well as many of the townspeople, and the mysterious old woman who comes and goes, pointing her ghostly fingers at hidden secrets that have been buried for decades.
