Ghetto Eyes - an wonderful example of great short stories!

The short stories of Ghetto Eyes truly turn your attention to many issues in America today, and yet in it's reality, the author of this anthology still uses his awesome creativity to lift the stories into a realm that captures the reader's full attention with surprises on every end!On One Southern Day is a story in its own glory in that Rod shows two women who are dear friends with basically the same outlook on life until a tragedy in a mall parking lot. This death takes them on a ride to show their true colors and how different they may see this death based on racial differences.I do look forward to reading more from this rising talented author.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!

A real page turner. The poetry reminds of the stuff Langson Hughes wrote, but in todays living. The short stories are fantastic! Can't wait for Colored Visions!

With these eyes

'Ghetto Eyes' is a collection of poetry and short stories that celebrates and identifies unique experiences within the African American community. The poems are so basic and so real you feel as if you are walking through the pages. A poem titled Ghetto Eyes reads like three mini-stories that outline tragic events seen through 'too old' eyes.Interspersed between the poetry are these three short stories:'On One Southern Day' is a quick look at a relationship between two best friends, one black and one white. A deadly event involving a stereotyped black youth at the mall, brought to the forefront just how much the friends did not have in common and it showed them they were never as close as they thought they were.'The Best Kept Secret' is an almost comical account of how a soon to be son-in-law catches his future father-in-law in a compromising situation and schemes to solicit funds from him. But bad advice and a seriously weak plan had Mr. Blackmailer in a deep hole that was threatening to swallow him. Did he see the error of his ways too late?'When It Comes Around', a title which is the beginning of a question, "When it comes around, will you take it?". An abused wife needed to get away but there were no avenues available. Then a stranger comes to town and what he offers her is a reckless escape route. She only has seconds to seize the opportunity and answer the question.Cornelius has combined poetry, prose and short stories in a veryunique way that captivated and entertained. This was quick andenjoyable.Reviewed by aNN
