This is the first book to catalog the vast majority of postcards related to Gettysburg and its famous battlefield, including more than 2,600 cards from the advent of postcards in the later 1890s to the present day, demonstrating the changing face of the battlefield and its remembrance over 120 years. Richly illustrated, it includes photographs of the fronts and backs of many cards, along with some of the major postcard publishers like William H. Tipton. It includes a brief history of postcard publishing in America.
The book contains two alphabetical lists of publishers, divided by major and minor. Most of the major publishers include a history of these companies, compiled from the author's intensive research over a period of more than 15 years. Deltiologists (postcard collectors) will appreciate this book for its histories of publishers and its checklist of card numbers.
