Chock full of examples and tips in the lost art of resume writing
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 18 years ago
I've owned an early edition of this book since 1995 and found it to be not only useful, but essential. It is not uncommon for me to get comments on the format of my resume like, "this is one of the best resumes I ever seen." (Again, I am referring to format.) I've done some hiring and I would estimate that 8 or 9 out of 10 resumes I get from HR (which are already screened) are poor (or worse). For the saavy applicant, your competition is weak, so get going and get this book! Pro: -Many, many examples of good resumes for different fields -Many tips for cover letters (e.g. a cover letter is NOT optional) -Many recommendations for the interviewing process -Fairly to the point, does not drag on and on -You can't beat this price. Even if you find only one good tip, it would be worth it! (Trust me, it's worth it.) Con: -Book is not as "crisp" or "polished" as some texts (but it doesn't really affect content in my view) -Examples are basic "idea generators" so you'll need to spend some time thinking (although in a sense this is a positive, resume will be yours/well thought out) Bottom line: Highly recommended for the beginner (in my experience that's most of us).
