Getting More With Less: Learning How To Learn

The Kindle edition had to be posted using image files since the forms and charts didn't post correctly in type. Therefore, if you need to enlarge the screen, you can't do that by increasing the font, but you'll need to increase the zoom in your browser settings-go to the vertical or horizontal dots in the upper right-hand corner of your browser to change the size in the Kindle.Study skills textbooks deal with helping you learn more efficiently. Efficiency in studying is learning the most you can possibly learn in the least possible amount of time. Many conscientious students feel that in order to improve their grades and their performance on tests, they need to spend more time. Often this is not the case. What they need to do is to spend the time more efficiently. Serious students frequently get themselves into a no-win situation by cutting out all the pleasant activities in their lives in order to spend more time on their studies. What can happen with this approach is that they allow the time they have to fill the space allotted, their minds wander, and they remember less of what they are studying than they would if they knew how to approach the material with the feeling that they were going to master it, not with the feeling of dread and deprivation. If you are buying this for a child (your child or grandchild, for example) if they are below the tenth grade, I recommend going over the material with them. It can be fun. If the child gets an answer wrong (such as the wrong sentence in the main idea section), rather than telling them that it's wrong, say something like: "That's interesting. I thought the main idea was..." and then say why: point out how the rest of the ideas support the main idea. That way, the book can be a pleasant bonding experience.
