When World War II broke out, there were tens of thousands of Germans who were members of the Mormon church. Here are the personal stories of 43 German Mormons who survived the war and its aftermath. Along with their fellow citizens, they stuggled during bombing attacks, evacuations, prolonged food shortages, the loss of their homes, and occupation by foreign armies. A few of these 43 people served in the German army; many were young children during the war. Many lived in what became East Germany and continued to quietly live their religion during the Soviet era. These stories tell how these people were sustained by their faith in God. Several people's stories discuss their conversion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) and their continued service in the church, including helping with the building of two Mormon temples in Germany in the 1980s.
