Geriatrics is a speciality that focuses mainly on health care of elderly people. The term geriatrics comes from the Greek word geron meaning old man and iatros meaning healer. It aims to promote health by preventing and treating diseases and disabilities in older adults.Gerodontology is concerned with delivery of dental care for the elderly with a particular consideration on patients suffering from different ailments along with the care of their physiological, physical or psychological needs. Elders above 65 years (old age) have health problems as a result of aging process, which calls for special consideration.
