Paul Beck is a professional thief serving time in prison.Gerard is a special; what they call psychotics serving time in a place branded Below; A place deep beneath the prison holding the most dangerous of them. Gerard has powers he calls the gift, he chooses to pass on the gift to Paul; teaching him how to inherit the gift. Teaching him how to use the gift. All inherited have only four year's lifespan; the gift making them age quickly. Outside the prison a killer is leaving bodies to trap Gerard in the prison by building an invisible wall of children's blood. A cop known as Duff has the other half of gift; each man has inherited half of the same gift. It's a race to inherit both halves and as rumoured, to live forever. Having friends on the outside, and inside Paul hopes to survive the teachings of Gerard, and the killer. A race to find the other half of the gift, Paul starts to lose friends quickly and when he has hit rock bottom and runs out of friends he meets the illusive other man; the newly inherited.
