George Michael is an enigma. While he is one of the most open and vocal pop superstars on the planet, he also fiercely protective of his privacy. From the formation of Wham! In 1981 he immediately found fame and fortune beyond his wildest dreams. His music formed the soundtrack to the 1980s and he achieved all of this despite growing up in a dysfunctional family where his father openly proclaimed that George had no talent. Wham! Split in 1986 but Michael went on to greater things as a solo artist. Along the way he has been embroiled in several controversies, but in a refreshing change to other superstars, he has been happy to address his issues head-on in the media. A court case with Sony; an arrest in a Los Angeles public toilet; minor run-ins over class-C drugs; and traffic offences in London. Rob Jovanovic's new biography of George Michael tackles the issues that formed the superstar today and his place as a cultural icon. It also for the first time analyses Michael's musical output and groundbreaking videos, right up to his triumphant 2006 tour, the first in 15 years as Michael returned from the music wilderness.
Fantastic book- real insight into the complexity of George Michael

I have adored George Michael for over 20 years, and when I got this book as a gift I was ecstatic. I also did not have high expectations and was prepared to either completely agree with what was written, or completely disagree. I was amazed that the book was basically written on the complete candid transparency granted to the author by George himself. It gave me real insight into the man and his talent- what drives him, what vexes him... it does not hold back information on any part of his complex life. You will learn to really understand him, and love him even more. George is as remarkable a man as he is a singer/ songwriter. I will continue to be a proud fan! I could not have been happier than to finally see him in concert in Boston in July 2008- a dream come true, really. Get this book- you will not be disappointed.
Great bio for an 80's icon

What a great bio! I am 39 and couldn't believe when George announced his US tour in '08. I got a ticket in April for his only Philadelphia show in July. It was a nostalgic blast from the past. George transformed the Wachovia center into a nightclub. We were up dancing more than we were sitting. He engaged us as though we were personal friends. This book takes us back to George's childhood influences up to and including his latest tour. There are some wonderful full color photos that showcase his changing looks. I also have the prior bios "Bare" and "Older". This completes my collection. I highly recommend this edition as well as the DVD companion "A Different Story" It was sold at his concerts and is hard to find. There are excerpts however on Youtube. Enjoy reading about a true musical genius.
A great purchase!

If you are a new fan of his music, this book will help you appreciate his journey from teen idol to legendary superstar. If you are a hardcore fan, you won't be able to put this book down! This biography is well worth the money. George is the best there is, and the best there ever will be!!!

The George Michael bio was very interesting and insightful. For one who has followed his career I found out alot of new things about his life. He was very honest and answered questions normaly an artist would shy away from for the sake of his reputation. It was an excellient read and I know he will continue to amaze his fans for many years to come. I highly recommend this book to all his fans.

I thought this book was really great. It is pretty easy to read, once you get past the introduction. The author really goes into the influences George has had throughout his life, and how they have influenced his music. He goes into George's relationships, scandals, and home life to provide a rich account of George's life. I would recommend this to any hard-core fan looking for more insight into one of the most controversial singers of our time.
