The charming swindler, Carne, was first published in 1897 in Pearson's Magazine - two years before the appearance of Raffles.Arsne Lupin is an extremely popular character in French literature. This gentleman thief was created by Maurice Leblanc (1864 - 1941). Lupin first appeared in serial format in July 1905 in the magazine Je sais tout.
