We are pleased to bring out our first edition of "Genetic Algorithm for Bin Packing Problems" for the Engineering and Technology researchers. This book is written to serve the needs of researchers who starts the carrier as junior fellowship to the post doctorial fellowship in the area of bin packing. Chapter I deals with the basics of the bin packing and the various terminologies used for the problem. It also explores the various factors influencing the bin packing and the constraints in the bin packing. The chapters also describes the methodology used by the logistic industries for packing bins into the container. Chapter II has an in depth review of the various work carried out in the field of bin packing by the researchers and the logistic industries. The various methodologies carried out by the researchers and the assumptions along with the limitation in the research also explained in details. The chapter concluded with the summary of inference and the gap existing in the bin packing area. Chapter III discussed about the methodology of solving the bin packing problem using the evolutionary algorithm called genetic algorithm. Chapter IV deals with the various approaches of solving the bon packing problem using genetic algorithm with the numeric examples in details. So that the reader can understand the methodology clearly with its advantages and the limitations. Chapter V concluded the entire work on bin packing and the solution methodology best fir the bin packing and logistic industries. The major advantage of reading the book is that the book contains the numeric problems and the solution in detailed fashion for each and every genetic methodology which makes the reader to understand the subject easily. With these features, we sincerely hope that the book would serve as a valuable text for the students and researchers.
