The book of Genesis records the beginning of all human institutions and relationships. It reveals God's progression through his primary and compound names: God, Jehovah, El Shaddai, Jehovah-Jireh, El Elyon, and others. Genesis records the first four of God's covenants with man. It also records the first dispensations, or ages--unequal time periods where God give man an opportunity to repent of sin. They all end in judgment because of man's failure to obey God.
