Generational Curse

Stephanie smiled as she turned the car onto a dirt road that used to be a shortcut to her mother's house. Now it was a muddy, rutted mess that anyone with common sense avoided with their vehicle. The oil and gas workers regularly used the road and sprayed enough magnesium chloride on the dirt to turn it into an oil slick. As long as she didn't lay on the gas, she should be able to traverse the obstacle course safely and shave twenty minutes off of her travel time. The sweet saxophone notes of Clarence Clemons, paired with the gritty voice of Bruce Springsteen filled the car with audible warmth and she hummed along as she rounded a corner. She didn't immediately see the tree that had fallen across the road, but she clearly heard a familiar voice shout, "Watch out!" Stephanie hit the brakes, but the slime on the road made stopping impossible. In a single moment she slammed her car into the tree, sending green gelatin salad flying all over the interior of the car...and all over her grandfather.
