I truly enjoyed reading about Gene Pitney's early days and how his family values were formed. Gene was a tenacious, determined, kind, young man, traits that I believe he carried throughout his whole life. I believe he enjoyed performing more than anything in his life, even though he was known to have a happy marriage. The one thing that the author did not cover was any other female relationships he had. I'm sure Gene was not a monk while on tour, and his tryst and consequences with Marianne Faithfull or other women were not covered. Gene was alive when this book was written and also wrote the forward so he probably had some say in the matter about covering that subject. As we all know about the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, the females in their lives greatly influenced their lives and music. Gene was perceived as having a squeaky clean image and only went off the rails once IMHO, big time. I still love him no matter what. I consider him my all-time favorite singer ever.
