Gautama Shiksha teaches the Sanskrit consonants, and their combination in conjunct consonant clusters. Conjunct clusters can have anywhere from two to seven members.
Gautama Shiksha is a short text, written in simple Sanskrit. It gives numerous examples of conjunct consonant clusters of different types, including 23 examples from specific songs or 'ganas' in Sama Veda. Although at its core, this is a Shiksha belonging to Sama Veda, there are universal themes and principles connecting this text to the whole field of Vedic Literature.
There are a number of tools provided in this book to help make the knowledge of Gautama Shiksha accessible. There is a chapter presenting the word by word meanings of all the sentences in Gautama Shiksha, as well as presenting the original text in both devanagari and roman transliteration. There is a comprehensive list of all the Samans belonging to the various Ganas of Sama Veda. There is a clear presentation of the theme of each of the 16 sections in Gautami Shiksha, and enunciation of the rules giving rise to the 23 types of conjunct consonants.
