Res Mysticum is an ethereal world, and a deadly one. In Res Mysticum you might become a vampire, but only if you deserve it. Murderous tyrants rule the west, murderous pirates roam the southern coast, and a colony of perfectly peaceful monks lives in a giant tree in the heart of the jungle (the monks also happen to know magic). Doran Kane knows none of this. He is bookish and analytical, and his life in the City of Axbridge is perfectly safe--that is, until the tyrants from the west infiltrate Axbridge and kill the people Doran loves most. The tragedy sends Doran fleeing into a wilderness teeming with dangers he never knew existed and that his skeptical mind struggles to accept. The main thing keeping Doran going is the prophecy his mentor left him with: a savior will come out of Axbridge and emerge victorious from a great tragedy. Doran obviously loves the idea of being the savior--who wouldn't? But he is not the only one in Res Mysticum qualified to be the savior, and he's certainly not the most impressive candidate. Facing the grave dangers he finds in Res Mysticum, will Doran emerge victorious from his great tragedy?
