Vampires and Mummies and Ghouls, Oh My

Pinning down the protagonist of this fast-paced tale of horror, proved difficult. It seemed a shared effort among video journalist, Kristin Blackmoore; father and son residents of Tuonela, Evan and Graham Stroud; and local coroner, Rachael Burton. But that didn't stop this story of awakened evil, troubling the small town of Tuonela Wisconsin, from immediately pulling me in and holding my interest all the way to the somewhat anti-climactic ending. All things considered, I found the book well written and worth the read. - Bob Avey, author of Beneath a Buried House

Thrilling and Chilling

I am not sure which book Martha Broome was reading, but I could not turn the pages fast enough. I stayed up all through the night reading it. I started reading it and could not put it down. My husband kept telling me to turn off the light, but I just couldn't do it. One of the best of Frasier's books that I have read. An amazing writer and I really could get into the character's heads. Have been reading mysteries for over 20 years and this is one of my favorites. Hope to see a third book in this series! Expect chillbumps when you read this one!!!

Fresh take on vampires!

Sometimes the second book in a series doesn't live up to the first. Not so in this case. I really enjoyed Pale Immortal, but Garden of Darkness is probably the better of the two. Pale Immortal seemed to borrow from several different genres, while Garden of Darkness is more rooted in horror. Pros: Even better than Pale Immortal. I loved revisiting the town of Tuonela and Old Tuonela. I hope there's a third book in the series. Cons: You probably need to read Pale Immortal first because the two books are almost one long story.

fabulous horror thriller

Too much happened in Tuonela, Wisconsin to allow her unborn baby to be born in a place filled with evil memories caused by supernatural malevolent beings (see PALE IMMORTAL), but especially of one betrayer, her once beloved Evan Stroud. Thus medical examiner Rachel Burton is leaving town to move past his nightmarish duplicity. However, before she leaves town, a skinned corpse is found in the nearby woods. People also complain that they see spirits walking the streets as if the dead have come back to life. Everyone blames Evan, but no one not even Stroud understands yet that the prize display of the Tuonela Museum, THE PALE IMMORTAL alleged vampire corpse, is calling out to the deceased and the living dead. All are coming to town, especially to the Old Tuonela part of town, and no one not even a pregnant medical examiner can leave. GARDEN OF DARKNESS, the second Tuonela thriller is a fabulous horror thriller that combines events from the past with a frightening present. The story line grips the audience from the moment a couple driving stop when the woman who just miscarried sees a girl and never slows down from her first scream to the last confrontation. Keep the lights on as Anne Frasier provides a powerfully scary supernatural tale. Harriet Klausner

A strong fix of supernatural scary

In this sequel, Anne Frasier takes readers back to the haunting of Old Tuonela as the town's forgotten dead are awakened by the museum display of the evil vampire and murderer, the Pale Immortal, igniting a series of shocking and gruesome deaths. Frasier once again brings life to unique, dark characters and uses her expert level of storytelling to add realism to this tale of ghostly possession. Readers will discover Old Tuonela as a place where lost souls, both dead and alive, fight for dominance as secrets of the past and present collide. A mixture of Amityville Horror with a historical twist of revenge, this novel is dark, chilling, and down right terrifying. If you need a strong fix of supernatural scary, Garden of Darkness, is where you'll find it.
