With humor and pathos, Forrest Pritchard recounts his ambitious and often hilarious endeavors to save his family's seventh-generation farm in the Shenandoah Valley. Through many a trial and error, he not only saves Smith Meadows from insolvency but turns it into a leading light in the sustainable, grass-fed, organic farm-to-market community.

Forrest does a wonderful work with "Gaining Ground". He has a way of putting you in the picture. His writing is informative, descriptive and enlightening. I enjoyed hearing how the family came together to build a business and a legacy. He lets you know that anything is possible with the right planning and work ethic, and an agreement to never give up.
