The authors list a number of traditional Irish Gaelic names, with both the earliest known spelling and the modern Gaelic spelling. Each entry includes a derivation and translation of the name's meaning and a discussion of the history of the name, often listing notable historical or legendary figures who bore it. Many entries also include common Anglicizations, and there is a table of English names at the end of the book that lists Gaelic "equivalents".
