Futuretainment offers a fresh approach to the role of the entertainment industry within the contemporary world of digital media. It looks at how the proliferation of concepts such as MySpace, YouTube, iTunes and Google, to name but a few, have come to dominate over previous channels of marketing and communication. Today, the consumers set the rules, assuming the role of business professionals themselves and thus transforming the entertainment industry. This book will be a business-minded examination of the evolving trends in media, how they will affect businesses and how to plan for a future that revolves increasingly around the demands of the consumer. It will also offer an 'insight' at the end of each chapter, which will act as a concise synopsis of the practicalities discussed in that chapter.

With the advent of the Internet, all types of media were forever changed in almost every imaginable way, and today we live in that changed world. This is something that Mike Walsh knows, has known, and professes in his travels, lectures, and now in his book //Futuretainment//. Walsh documents and demonstrates the changes that have occurred ever since Netscape came out with the first commercial web-browser in 1994. He outlines, step by step, what happened, how the old guard of media (TV and radio stations, newspapers, magazines, books) was affected, how they reacted, and most importantly, what the consumers of that media did to change the face of news and entertainment forever. //Futuretainment// shows the type of thinking and acting that is necessary in order to succeed as a media outlet, be that of a single blogger, a company, or a corporation, and thrive in this new world of instant access, convenience, and ultimate market variety and competition. With a key concept being that there is still a viable market for media in the digital age, Walsh offers hope and insight to anyone wishing to distribute any type of content for any reason.
