The Nature of Love

By Emmanuel Berl

Book Overview

The Nature of Love by Emmanuel Berl is a philosophical exploration of the concept of love. Berl delves into the complexities of love, examining its various forms and manifestations, and seeks to understand its underlying nature. He draws on a range of sources, including literature, psychology, and philosophy, to explore the different aspects of love, such as passion, desire, and commitment. Berl also considers the impact of cultural and societal norms on our understanding of love, and how our experiences of love shape our identities and relationships. Ultimately, The Nature of Love is a thought-provoking and insightful analysis of one of the most fundamental aspects of human experience.1924. From the Authors Preface: To my mind, the word-love-indicates all those feelings presented to consciousness which are connected with external and personal objects. It signifies religious feeling, friendship, patriotism-in so far as a nation is a person-as well as the relation between a man and a woman. It is also contrasted with vaguer feelings whose cause we attributed to ourselves or to impersonal objects: such as the joy occasioned by fine weather or excellent health, the boredom resultant from a steady downpour of rain or from bodily infirmity, etc. My book came into being because of the need I felt to coordinate a series of experiences. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
