The fire department's biggest fundraiser of the year is in full swing when a man is found dead in the funhouse. The police question all the witnesses but no one is sure who the man is, or if his demise was due to natural causes or a tragic accident.

When the man is identified as Atlas Spark, a Locust Point fugitive who went missing a year ago, and the cause of death is a possible accidental overdose, Kay is tagged by her boss to investigate as a topic for his crime vlog. As Kay begins to untangle the dead man's sordid personal life, she discovers a host of people who wanted Atlas Spark dead and begins to wonder if the man's overdose was accidental, or if his death was actually a murder. Can Kay solve the mystery before the carnival ends, or will the case become as cold as last night's funnel cake?
