Alouise Trana Hillier was born in 1920 on a farm near the village of Kindred, North Dakota. She married during World War II and led a full and busy life raising five children, teaching remedial reading, and enjoying many hobbies and activities with her husband. At the age of 93, she joined a class in memoir writing at the retirement community where she now lives. This began a three-year process of reflection and writing that brought new understanding of some long-repressed memories and events. And there was a special surprise that revealed a secret friend who strongly influenced her life.
