Fuel Cell Powered Vehicles

In the United States, research is continuing into using fuel cells to improve the fuel economy of both sport utility vehicles (SUV's) and passenger cars. Predictions are that through the innovative use of a fuel cell powering an electric motor in an SUV, an increase of 15 per cent in fuel economy may be achieved along with a drastic reduction in emissions, even using an on-board reformer. Only a few years ago, predictions were that fuel cells would not be used in production vehicles for at least a decade. Today, production vehicles will be available by 2003.
