From Wann to Ashland is a sequel to The Wann Gambler which was published in 2011. However, it may be read as a stand alone story. The Wann Gambler told the story of a family's survival and endurance from 1945 to 1955.This family lived in Wann, Nebraska, population 30. Seven members lived in a shack and then a one room brick building. The family was poor. Even so, they were active in the Wann school, church, and general store. At times they raised chickens, hogs, cows and strawberries, sweet corn and tomatoes.From Wann to Ashland relates how the family moved to the nearest town of Ashland. The four brothers became active in the Ashland schools and all the athletic teams.The father had been a gambler but with the move he became gainfully employed and so the family moved from poverty to a state of medium prosperity.The author was the second oldest boy who benefitted greatly from following the example of his older brother.
