Our cookbook celebrates three generations of cooks starting with our grandmother born in 1888 and our mother, Dorothy. While growing up on our North Dakota farm, we enjoyed deliciously prepared recipes served by family and friends. Good food was always at the center of our gatherings and provided the basis for great fellowship. We know that many people love to cook. They like local, and they like a North Dakota connection. They also enjoy eating the best tasting food. This cookbook features recipes from two of the larger immigrant groups to settle in North Dakota. Enjoy!!! Regards, The Knutson Family======================Good Day or Guten Tag! My name is Bobbi Jo Cody. I am a co-creator of this wonderful cookbook which highlights two of the most common immigrant populations here in North Dakota. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to experience both Scandinavian and German Russian family traditions. This portion of the cookbook was put together for those who enjoy German, Russian, and German Russian foods. You will find a variety of traditional favorite recipes along with some new twists on those classics. These are recipes my great-grandmother and grandmother prepared our family as I was growing up. Many recipes are from relatives and friends who settled in the heart of German Russian country here in North Dakota. I have vivid memories of my Grandmother, Lois Schaffer in her housecoat filled with flour, standing over an electric fry pan making magical smells for us in her Gackle, ND kitchen. Just across the small town lived her Mother, my Great Grandmother, Irma Remboldt. Great Grandma Irma always had meals ready as if she sensed company. She loved to entertain in her home. This is where our family gathered for Christmas Eve. We attended the Christmas church service at the Baptist Church, followed by a huge meal that took days to prepare, and ending with a birthday cake and singing to baby Jesus. Please enjoy these recipes as my friends and family have. I hope they bring back memories of your past or help to create new traditions for your family. A big thank you to all who have contributed to this cookbook and especially to my husband Todd Cody, who put it all together and designed the beautiful covers. Blessing, Bobbi Jo Cody
