This book is inspired by a brief stay at the U.S. Military Academy where I served at Keller Hospital. The setting in the Hudson River Valley is enough in itself to inspire writers and it truly has, time and again. In describing some of the wildlife in its natural environment, I have tried to catch some of the beauty and majesty of the area. The men and women who train at the Academy and those who serve their country are in themselves inspirational. Their portraits are included, often in thumbnail sketches and often in the cataloging of events that shaped their lives, and ours as a country. While sticking pretty much to historical fact, I have presumed a little psychology and trust the reader will understand that poetic need. Also, I have included references to some of the legends that add so much to the U.S. Military Academy's life. Some readers can add to these legends and I hope they'll share them with me. Eugene V.
