From the "Vodun Moment" to God's "Christian Moment"

In Jesus Christ, God died. He is no less God for that. On the contrary, this divine solidarity with human finitude is the highest theology that Christianity embodies, and whose sole mission is to elucidate it to all of humanity. The question here, then, is whether the event of God in Jesus Christ has significance for Africans, more specifically for Beninese people. If the answer is yes, does it apply only to Catholic Christians, or to all human existence, including those who do not adhere to it? In that case, how should faith in God be defined, and what is at stake in the Revelation of God in Jesus Christ? Drawing inspiration from the theology of Reconciliation by Barth lemy Adoukonou, a Beninese theologian, and from Jean-Luc Marion's phenomenology of donation, we propose a "hermeneutical renewal" of Christianity in Africa. This renewal must prioritize the dialogue between "Faith and Culture." This dialogue of faith must be a theological dialogue.
