A delightful and intelligent read

I was simply surprised at how easy this book was to read. Jacquie McTaggart has a simple, yet elegant way of "telling it like it is." As a teacher and parent myself, I found the book helpful in so many ways. I now know the "error" of my ways from both points of view. Ms. McTaggart has the ability to write each chapter in a concise manner. You could buy her book just to learn more about "No Child Left Behind" or "ADHD" and the usefulness of medication. This book has it all, plus lots of humor. I think this book is a must have for all parents of children entering the school system, as well as it should be a part of every faculty room across the country.

Something for everyone

There is something for everyone to think about! This book has created an interesting flow of all of the experiences that Mrs. McTaggart has seen in her numerous years of experience. It is a great "plug-in" book for anyone who has stock in youngsters, which is almost everyone in this day. Parents, teachers, and school administrators can really take hold of the ideas that cross from classroom to home and back. These three people make many important decisions for primary students. As for politicians, they sometimes reign over the nation's citizens as if they were doing so from a foreign land as D.C. is very far from so many of the students who need to be heard. Mrs. McTaggart was not afraid to address some very important issues, including those that politicians' decisions have created. Also, I am someone who does not have children at this point in my life. However, the idea is in my near future. I try to deal with all of the scary notions and issues of today. But this book definitely helps create that level of understanding not only of the triad of the child, teacher, and parent, but also there is good knowledge shared of the other children and political concerns. Thanks Mrs. McTaggart! Not just for the great words of knowledge and advice, but also for the years of service!

If Only....

What a wonderful book, if only I had this book when my children were in school! This is a book filled with good advice for parents. Even though my children are now grown and their school days completed, I found the way the book was written kept me wanting to read more and more. Reading this book felt like I was having a personal conversation with the author. Many of the topics she wrote about brought back many memories of raising my children and the issues I had to deal with. While the author covers issues that are of concern for parents, many times I found myself smiling as I read the stories that Jacquie wrote about. And, as you read, you can sense her wealth of knowledge and her love for children. The book has many tips and suggestions to help any parent as their children start school and progress through the sometimes challenging school years. From The Teacher's Desk is a book that we will certainly recommend to our friends and family who have school-aged children. This book is written from experience not based on just theory!!

A Real Eye Opener

I have to admit when I first picked up this work I thought, oh ho hum, but I was in for a great surprise when I read what awaited me between its pages. Outstanding. Packed inside this exceptional book is much needed information for parents and teachers alike, from a woman who has had 42 years teaching experience. How can that be interesting? Believe me it is. The author shares with the reader issues such as bullies in school, the decline of good manners, and what can be done about it, what to say to your children when there is a problem with a teacher and what not. The topics are numerous and insightful. Author, Jacquie McTaggart uses wit and humor along with knowledge that only experience can bring. to give us the answers. I truly believe this book would help any parent or teacher as they embark on the journey we call education of our youth, and give some useful insight to questions that have plagued parents and teachers from the beginning of the education process. Very highly recommended, a gem of a read. Shirley Johnson Senior Reviewer MidWest Book Review

A-Must-Have-Book: From the Teacher's Desk

If you read one book about school or parenting this year, "From the Teacher's Desk" is the book to read. Based on 42 years teaching experience, this book is bursting with common sense, successful strategies, and ways to make school better for our children. Mrs. McTaggart tackles the issues of the day--from the use of Ritalin to bullies in school, from the decline of good manners to childhood obesity--with rare insight and humor. Dealing candidly with 30 issues that highly influence the lives of our children, "From the Teacher's Desk" is both comprehensive and compassionate. With the eye of a poet, there are no wasted works. It's the kind of book that I wish that I had read as a first year teacher or parent. When I visit classrooms around the country to read poetry, I will share this treasure with teachers, administrators, and parents that I meet along the way.
