Tchamba, Mama Tchamba, Tchambawo. What exactly does this means? Is it a city, the dwellers of a specific city or is it a deity?
What of all the African descendants who wear the "Tchamba Ga", the Tchamba bracelet? Are they all from Tchamba? Are they maybe descendants of the deity Mama Tchamba? These are all questions that some, especially the younger generations of West Africa, the Caribbean, Brazil and any other country where we might encounter African natives.
Follow me into the Worlds of Tchamba!
For thousands of years before the new era where the white man started to colonize Africa, there were emperors and kings who were the rulers and sometimes, the spiritual leaders of their tribes. A king was always born by the stars and by that very stature, would always become a king no mater where the wind of change leads him. This is story of how the royal family Touglo came to be: As he arrived at "Tohgodow" which is to become Togoville, he encountered the governor of the German colonies who was heading to the royal court of this lands. Not knowing who they were, Touglo walked in front of them to cross the road and reach the other side. He was stopped by one of the native guards of the white master who barked: "You there! Stop! Who are you to dare walk in front of the chancellor of the German colonies?" Nachtigal drew out is pistol to shoot down the one who had just committed such an affront. As Zohminakadja turned around to see who had just bark a command toward him, he saw the white man on the horse pointing a gun at him to shoot him down. Without hesitation, he responded: "I am Touglo Zohminakadja! If you are really a man, do shoot and let's see who, between the bullet and yourself will hit the ground first!"Nachtigal sent a glance to his guide, an African man who was dressed the same as the colonial military. The guide shook his head left and right, signaling the governor not to try. Nachtigal holstered his pistol and addressed young Zohminakadja: "You are as brave as any of the great kings I've met during all my travels. Are you the leader of your village?"
