From Humanist To Transhumanist To Singularity - a Philosophical Dialogue in Verse: What is the Human Place in the Future?

This work explores the "human place" in the future. The convergence of artificial intelligence, robotics, genetic engineering and virtual reality makes possible a transition from humanism to transhumanism and then to singularity, as the merging of those two. Characters here, discuss such issues as death and rebirth, purpose or purposeless in nature and the nature of experience. Discussion is within the larger historical context of the emergence of the cosmos, and that of human beings and their possible future evolution. A prime issue for discussion by the dramatic characters, is the role of sensation and sensory based art, in humanity's future, in which sensation may occupy a very different place than at present.

Great Poem Inspired by Paul's Book

Trio (After reading Paul Dolinsky) The third ghost stood and stared, But not much was to be seen Through the greening tangle Of flower, stem, root and tree. The second ghost bent, Bent to his knees, and began to intone A chant of such luxury That the trees and shrubs wept. The first ghost just lay on the floor And wept, wept silently. The third ghost moved a step, Step of such clarity That the rubies in the crown Just sparkled sonorously. The second ghost moved a right hand And beat the air; and in so doing Made the forest flowers perfume the square. The first ghost moved into an upright position, And, with two hands, clapped, Clapped into a military tattoo. In the distance the pipes could be heard, And then a pearly, luminescent cloud Lowered, to cover the scene. The lament of a trine faded into all tomorrows, And the scene kept its stillness and silence – kept it all In a frieze of tumbled beauty; all sparked to a rosy glow In its oval-pale gladness. The pipes echoed the theme of the orb, Which was the eternal moon, which was the eternal echo, Which was, which was – the eternal moon. Joy V. Sheridan 31.7.17; 3am
