Product Description

Beware Tabonga! On a remote South Seas island, no one is safe from this hideous and unique monster. Tabonga is part man, part tree, all doom. Formerly an island prince, he was unjustly put to death by a witch doctor. Now he's returned to life with roots, branches and a vengeance. Against natives. Against visiting American scientists who investigate the tree's radioactive green sap. Against anyone unwise enough to expect a tree to stay put. A macabre medley of creature feature, Polynesian kitsch and Atomic Age cautionary tale, From Hell It Came is the killer-tree movie you woodn't want to miss!

Smoking Tabanga! It is bad for you.

A freak storm transfers Bikini radiation to an off-the-charts island. It may look a tad like the filming location of many places in Southern California. Meanwhile, the natives hate Americans and plot to dispatch them. A local besmirched native threatens revenge. Strange undergrowth at the symmetry has a different meaning for different people. Natives speak with a New York accent. It makes you wonder who taught them English. Though set on a South Seas island, From Hell It Came (1957) was filmed entirely in the United States, most likely on California studio backlots. The production relied on modest jungle sets, painted backdrops, and practical effects to simulate the tropical environment. All major scenes—including interiors, exteriors, and the ceremonial village—were staged in controlled studio environments. The infamous Tabonga tree monster lumbered through these artificial jungles, with quicksand pits and tribal paths constructed for dramatic effect. No location shooting occurred outside the U.S., underscoring the film’s low-budget ingenuity. Will the Wood-be creature, Maku / The Tabanga, played by Chester Hayes, get his revenge and them some? Or can he be stopped by other means? (cutting means) All we know is that, like the Creature from the Black Lagoon or the old Mummy, he is attracted to the cutest girl wearing white.
