Singularly Important Work of Jewish History

This book, although old-fashioned, is the finest resource of which I am aware of this extraordinarily important segment of Jewish history. It is short, concise, and makes perfectly clear the various people and nations at play. It is really two pieces combined. It is essential reading and should be in the library of any serious student of Jewish history.
