Katherine had always been interested in the supernatural, but she never thought that she would encounter a ghost herself. When she moves to the town of Eden, strange things begin to happen. The first time she sees Damon, he appears to her as a misty figure in the corner of her room. At first, she is frightened, but as time goes on, she begins to feel sorry for him. The ghost is lost and confused, and he doesn't remember anything about his life. Katherine decides to give him a name, Damon, and tries to help him remember who he was. To her surprise, Katherine discovers that Damon is quite talented. He is able to tap dance, and he does so whenever he is happy. Katherine finds Damon endearing, and she enjoys spending time with him. She even begins to fall in love with him. But Katherine's world is turned upside down when she meets George, a popular boy at her new high school. George is everything that Damon is not: mean, arrogant, and cruel. Katherine soon realizes that George is Damon's living counterpart. Katherine knows that she has to do something to help Damon. She also knows that George is in grave danger, and only she can save him. But to do so, she will have to risk everything, including her own life. Saving George might kill Damon forever, and Katherine must make a choice between her ghostly love and the living boy who needs her help. In the end, she decides that love is worth the risk and sets out to save them both.
