Sensational Alternative Sequel to Jason Takes Manhattan for Friday the 13th Part 7

This is the third of the 25th anniversary celebration novels that I have read and the most similar to the original movie concept of the three. Non of these novels (there were five released at the time of this review) are related to each other, you do not need to read them in any particular order. The only thing I would recommend though just so you can fully appreciate the start of this one is to watch the movie Friday the 13th part 7 as this novel's scenario for Jason reappearing at Camp Crystal Lake relates to divers finding his body to prove claims of the victims from that movie to get them out of jail. Even if you haven't seen that though, this is still a great read. In Hate-Kill-Repeat Jason Voorhees is dug out of his muddy grave at the bottom of Camp Crystal Lake by police divers. He immediately makes up for lost time, slicing, chopping, stabbing and disembowelling everyone he comes across. Rumours of his return appear in the papers and even though Camp Crystal Lake is closed by the police many choose to simply ignore the closure dismissing Jason as just a legendary tale of past generations. A massive hotel at the edge of the lake (although you do wonder why Jason has never visited here before since it just a short stroll from Camp Crystal summer camp) is also having a convention with workers and those staying there not expecting an uninvited guest. The hotel has two guests who aren't opposed to murder themselves, having left quite a trail of victims in their wake. They have extremely high morals and see themselves as professionals, two of the weapons of ridding America of its sin. They believe Jason to be a kindred spirit holding the same beliefs they do and that they will all team up together for their crusade. What they of course don't release is that compared to Jason they are really just amateurs at this game. Although all the novels in this series vary greatly in topics and quality (some such as The Jason Strain deviate substantially from the usual format) they are all still good reads and anyone who is a fan of the great hockey mask wearing mass murderer will want to check them all out.

Friday the Thirteenth Part 7 1/2

Just want to let the fans know about great continuity this novel has with the movie series. In fact it bridges the very poor continuity that occurs between parts 7 and 8. Fans have long complained about the continuity gaffs between these two chapters. Part 7 ends with Jason rotted, roasted and mostly unclothed being dragged through a hole in the dock by John Shepard's ghost. Part 8 picked up with a much less rotted Jason (his Corey Feldman inflicted machette head wound and exposed bones have healed over) pinned beneath a sunken dock and sporting a brand new wardrobe including a Blue workshirt, Unionsuit, gray pants and a nifty set of Black leather gloves. Guess they thought nobody would notice. Well, we did. This novel clears up some of this. It picks up about two days after part 7, it does not take place in the late eighties and seems more modern, which makes sense since there were supposed to be some big jumps in time between parts 4-5-6-7. (hear that timeline makers) Jason is revived, still in his burned state, and quickly aquires a new mask and gloves. The rest of the book is an original story that is quite good. Arnopp takes into account the litle details that the producers of the movies overlooked. The ending doesnt tie directly in to part 8 but has Jason still on the loose and leaves room for other adventures before he is finally sent back to the bottom of Christal Lake and his eventual siling trip on board the Lazaras.

Hate-Kill-Repeat...Jason's Back!

Jason Arnopp gets big snaps for doing his homework, as hate kill repeat is a nice piece of the puzzle as far as the movies are concerned. This book picks up right after the events in Friday the 13th Part VII: the New Blood where Tina shepard summons her long dead father from the lake to throw chairs around Jason a pull him down into its murky depths. Excellent! And thats where they find him, buried up to his neck at the bottom of Crystal lake. I also liked that Arnopp mentions some of the Events in Friday the 13th VI: Jason Lives, in that Sheriff Garris got folded in half, and that the good folks of Crystal Lake changed the name to Forest Green. So a couple of Moral crusaders go on a killing spree headed for crystal lake to try to join up with Jason, yeah o.k., you read how that comes out. I'll give you ten guesses but you're only going to need one. Beside the thin plot, and some stereo type characters the action in this book are fast, and at times very graphic. Watch out folks the body count is off the charts! The trade off between characters and situations are very smooth, Arnopp keeps the action going. This book did surprise me with a little bit of a twist near the end. The other thing I liked about this book was that not only did it pick up where movie #7 left of, it also eludes to what happens in the beginning of Jason goes to Hell. I would have given this book one more star for a perfect score, but some of the characters I thought were just a little to cheesy. Bottom Line....Highly entertaining!

FRIDAY THE 13th 3: Hate - Kill - Repeat by Jason Arnopp is the story of a sophisticated couple, the Thawns, who are members of a cult called the Redeemers whose mission is to rid the world of sinners. They are on their way to Crystal Lake to connect with Jason Voorhees. They feel that Jason has a lot in common with them since the teenagers he kills are sinners engaging in promiscuity, drugs and drinking. Along the way, the Thawns commit many murders. Among the people they kill are some drunks having a threesome in a motel room, a slimy executive and the receptionist he was having an affair with and a female gas station attendant who 'came on' to Ms. Thawn. They also attempt to kill a pregnant girl from a trailer park. FBI agents Daimler and van Stadt are hot on their trail. Of course, Jason isn't helping matters any with his bloody killing sprees at the lake. From the very first page, the book grabbed my attention. It is filled with fascinating characters, tense scenes and earth shaking terror. The plot is so twisted that the ending is a big surprise. Even if you don't particularly care for horror, the mystery of this one plus wondering how all this can possibly end will suck you in anyway. Reviewed by Alice Holman of The RAWSISTAZ(tm) Reviewers

The couple head to Crystal Lake in hopes of recruiting Jason Vorhees, who they believe is on the same crusade. The FBI is hot on their trail, but the Thawns believe God is on their side. As for Jason, he is IN Crystal Lake, at the bottom. He would probably have stayed that way too, if some police divers had not seen a head sticking up from the lake floor and proceeded to dig up the body. ***** Lots of blood. Lots of gore. Lots of death. Hey, this is a "Friday the 13th" novel. What else would it be like? So this is PERFECT for all Jason fans. Recommended! ***** Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews.
