Step inside the dark, unfiltered world of Central Florida's alternative scene.
In Friday Night Goths, photographer Patrick Scott Barnes presents a raw, intimate visual archive of the goth community he photographed in Downtown Sanford, Florida. Moving beyond familiar stereotypes, this photography collection captures the fashion, personalities, atmosphere, and sense of community Barnes encountered during Friday nights at Manikins Lounge.
As a Black photographer with decades of experience documenting Central Florida nightlife, Barnes brings his own perspective to a subculture often perceived from the outside as predominantly white. His photographs focus not on stereotypes, but on the individuals who made the scene visually distinctive-people expressing themselves through dark fashion, makeup, costumes, style, and attitude.
Inside Friday Night Goths, you'll discover:
The People: Candid portraits of the individuals Barnes encountered during Sanford's goth and alternative nights.
Inside Manikins Lounge: Photographs documenting the distinctive mannequin-filled Downtown Sanford venue and the community that gathered there.
Unfiltered Photography: Straightforward nightlife portraiture that allows the subjects, clothing, makeup, and personalities to command attention.
A Cultural Time Capsule: A photographic record of a particular place, community, and period in Central Florida nightlife.
Friday Night Goths is the first in a continuing series drawn from Barnes' photographic archive. Each volume presents another collection of faces, styles, personalities, and moments from the scene he documented.
For fans of documentary photography, goth and alternative culture, nightlife photography, and Florida subculture, Friday Night Goths preserves a scene as Barnes saw it-from behind the camera.
