In late May 1944 Henry Hawks is a corporal in the U.S. Army stationed in London, England with the hundreds of thousands of other soldiers, waiting to invade the coast of France. The OSS (office of strategic services) is recruiting three soldiers to be sent behind enemy lines on a pre-invasion mission. Henry is one of the three men that are chosen because he can speak both German and French. Henrys life shifts into the fast lane when he knocks on Renee Landrys door, in hopes of staying at her house for five days. When Henry completes his mission, he comes back to Renees house to hide from the German Army, only now he has become the wealthiest person in town and the most wanted man in France, by the German Army. Now Henry is busy trying to give money away and keeping it a secret from the Germans. In the next few months, Henry must make many decisions that will affect both Renee and him. It is a romantic love story to be sure, but Henry must dodge many obstacles in his path to happiness, and that means several people are going to have to die.
