Great Books

I've been a fan of this book series since the first day it came out. The first tunnels book is probably the most mysterious and exiting in the series. It begins with Will (the main character) and his friend Chester digging holes. One day they stumble upon a mysterious brick wall. Later into the book they manage to break through the wall and they find a city. When I first read about an underground town my mind was just saying The City of Ember (Books of Ember) which is also a good book. Anyway, Will finds that he was actually born in the Colony (the name of the city). He finds a family that he didn't know before and becomes in love with the underground city. I can't remember when the first book stops, (haven't read it in a couple of years) but eventually Will and Chester are abducted by the Colony's police force known as the Styx. Will and Chester are held in different cells. Will escapes and comes back for Chester. Together they take a ride on a train known as the miners train deeper into the earth as stowaways. When they get off the train they discover that they are in a place known as the Deeps. There is little food or water here and there is still Styx patrolling around. They are aided by 2 renegades by the names of Drake and Elliot. The book Deeper is a little less 'action-y' but is still a good book. Drake and Elliot help Will and Chester survive. They run from the Styx and near the end of Deeper Elliot, Chester, and Will get seperated from Drake. They are cornered near the Pore and are forced to jump in. The Pore is supposed to be an endless hole. But if you had Styx shooting at you with all they've got, I would've jumped too. Well, I really don't want to spoil the book for you so I guess I'll stop there. dd

Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams continue to bring readers on a journey of a life time.

The story of Tunnels, Deeper, and now Freefall, are absolutely incredible. Here are my reasons why: 1. I enjoy realistic fiction. I like when a stories science fiction seems to work within the books reality. These books try to do that as much as possible while maintaining a sense of fun adventure. There are so many things that happen in these books that if seem like it could happen if you believe in the science that the writers have come up with inside the context of the book. The writers are able to make amazing things seem believable and real. 2. The bad guys are bad. The danger is real, and it feels real. I enjoy a story that when someone is shown to be bad, they continue to be bad. It isnt the typical story where some bad guy monologues on about how bad he is, than shoots a guy so you believe what he says. No, these books have realistic danger and violence not just for violence sake, but for deepening the characters throughout the book. There are some parts in these books that you can hardly believe you are reading a young adult book, but it makes it so good because its real, and it could happen, and the writers don't make the danger or violence easy for the characters. When they escape danger, it feels like they did. 3. The story doesnt just add random action so the reader is fed with "fun". The story takes its time and creates a real world thats incredible to explore. 4. The writers use real science theories and facts, and history to create a realistic sounding history inside the book that makes sense and feels real to the reader. 5. The book doesnt have usual happy endings. It has happy moments when they happen, but not just to make you always feel happy after a sad moment. These books just feel like something special. They go where other books are scared to. The story contains moments where characters that usually wont ever get hurt, they get hurt. Also where plots seem just where you think they are going, they don't. 6. The writers detail the underground landscape so well. They make you feel like you are really there. The story doesnt just jump from action to action, it lets you understand each segment of the story and moves on at a very nice pace. Read these books, you will love them. I cannot wait to see the movies sometime soon as well.

Free Fall

Free Fall was by far the best book in the Tunnel series. It showed good imagination and a satisfactory conclusion.

Freefall

This was a fantastic book. I would highly recommend it. This is a great series for young adults to read. If you have not read the first two, it will be hard to follow parts of this one. You really need to start with (Tunnels), the first book in the series, and read them in order.

GREAT

Very good read! Love the series, anyone who loves a good "Indiana Jones" type read would adore the Tunnels Series :)
